Time to Renew!

The fiscal year for TASP is coming to an end. We have had a very successful year with an increase in membership, lots of involvement at the state department, and a well attended Fall Conference and Spring Institute. Over the year, we received lots of great feedback from you and will be implementing the results of our first survey to make improvements in the coming years. TASP strives to be a professional organization that is helpful, supportive, informative, and an advocate for the field. Please consider renewing your TASP membership for the 2016-2017 fiscal year.

Spring Institute April 15, 2017 at University of Memphis, Lambuth Campus in Jackson

The TASP Spring Institute will be held at the University of Memphis - Lambuth campus on Saturday April 15, 2017 from 9:00-3:00 in the Wilder Student Union. Registration will begin at 8:00. We will have three presentations that Saturday. Elizabeth B. Meisinger, Ph.D. Associate Professor, University of Memphis, School Psychology Program will discuss evidenced-based practice in reading fluency assessment & intervention. Joanna Bivins, Ed.S., NCSP, TDOE Director of School Psychology Services will discuss issues surrounding screening for dyslexia.

TASP Election Nominations

February 1 is the nomination deadline for the upcoming TASP Election!! All members will vote for President-Elect and Treasurer, as well as their respective regional reps. If you have a nomination, please email it to Current regional reps- if you do NOT want to run again in your current office, please email ASAP so we can recruit other members to run!!

Proposed Changes to the SPED Eligibility Standards

At the Tennessee Board of Education (BOE) meeting on July 22, 2016, the BOE board voted in favor of making some changes to the eligibility standards. This was the FIRST reading of the action item, and the Tennessee BOE must vote on the changes at a SECOND reading.
Currently, the eligibility standards have NOT changed. However, due to the interest in proposed changes, TASP has provided a link to the proposal as reported on the TN BOE website:

2017 TN IDA RISE Conference

An educational conference for parents, professors, educators, administrators, medical, psychological, and support personnel. The TN branch of the International Dyslexia Association will host the annual RISE conference on April 8, 2017 at Currey Ingram Academy. Link for more information:

NCSP Renewal Changes (applies to NCSP awarded on or after Jan. 1, 2016)

The following is reprinted from an email received from Barbara Bole Williams, PhD, NCSP who is the Chair of the National School Psychology Certification Board:

Beginning January 1, 2016, all newly accepted recipients of the NCSP credential must demonstrate one academic year of professional support/mentorship prior to their first NCSP renewal only (three years after being awarded the credential).
